Fraternal twins, Coke and Pepsi,(really, that is their names) begin the story by jumping off a cliff. Well, actually, Pepsi is pushed off by her brother and Coke jumps. They have to otherwise the men in the black suits and bowler hats riding golf carts are going to kill them. If you can get into this sort of wackiness, you will love Mission Unstoppable.
Gutman has a strange sense of humor that grows on you. I found myself quoting passages to my husband as I was reading them. The story is wild and fun, taking the reader on a cross country trip to all the unusual, tourist attractions that can be found in small town America. (What’s better than the world’s largest ball of twine? How about another world’s largest ball of twine. Who knew there were two vying for the title?).
This book is full of wacky adventures, arcane facts, secret codes and suggested computer activities. I had so much fun reading it, I can’t wait to read the next one in the series just to find out where Gutman will take his characters to next. If you are trying to introduce geography to your kids or just looking for a fun read with lots of interesting facts, I highly suggest this book to you. This would be a great read aloud story for teachers or parents.
